Summary

Welcome to the hitchhikers guide to Brexit - your day by day journey of discovery to see whether it was worth it or not.

It's now 10 years - would you believe - since the momentous referendum which ripped the UK out of the European Union. The leavers promised a new Jerusalem; the remainers predicted disaster. Having invented the word Brexit, I want to give you a new way of finally answering the question; did it work?

It's a maddening debate. Someone says yes and produces one fact, someone says no and produces another. The circular argument ends in rancour with no-one convinced.

Play the 35 Brexit games

So, to test the promises and predictions, why not bring all the facts together in one place just like I've done in the League of Nations. Let's pitch the UK against the EU on 35 issues and see who won? Here's the first:

Summary
League wrap-up and final table

So from now till June 23rd - the 10th anniversary of the vote - I'll show you a fixture list of those 35 facts from the impartial sources that your tax pays for - the World Bank, OECD, IMF etc - and bring them alive in seven issues that were at the heart of the debate:

Seven weeks, seven Brexit leagues

  1. Economy: Did Brexit make Britain grow faster — or just fall behind more slowly?
  2. Trade: Has Brexit made Britain more open to the world — or more closed off?
  3. Leadership: Is Britain becoming harder to govern after Brexit?
  4. State: Has Brexit strengthened British democracy — or strained it?
  5. People: Has Brexit left Britain more unequal?
  6. Culture: Is Britain still an innovation power — or losing its edge?
  7. Strategy: Is post-Brexit Britain actually stronger in the world - or weaker?

Each week you'll get 5 facts from Monday to Friday and, on Saturday, you'll get a league table which brings all the match results of the week together to show you who won and who lost.

And, on Brexit day itself, we'll aggregate all of the league results into one, big Brexit League of Nations to show you the final result.

On that day, my book, "Brexit at 10 - the reckoning" will be published and available to you. All based on the facts revealed during this run-up to one of the most seismic recent events in British and European history....

....and see if Britain really did take back control or, in fact, lost it.
